Text Adventure Game

October 21 2018 - November 5 2018

This was a week-long project where I was tasked with creating a text adventure game in Unity. This was a simple project that gave the player text prompts with choices to choose from with different paths to go down, much like a choose your own adventure game.

Though this was a short and sweet simple project, it was fun to come up with such a concept. I've always wondered how exactly someone would write out a create your own adventure storyline, how do they keep track of all those different paths? And in the books, how do they decide how they're going to organize the pages. So this was a fun project to really get to experiment with that myself. Granted, since it wasn't a book, the organization was easy.

Coming up with the adventure was a little difficult. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to make for an adventure. I ended up with an idea that mixed video games and a zombie apocalypse. In the end, though it was simple, it was fun to come up with the idea and figure out all the different paths I wanted

 the player to have.

Postmortem

Q: What challenges did you overcome?

A: The challenge I overcame was coming up with the storyline and paths for the game. After I was able to figure out what I wanted for a storyline, how many, and what paths I wanted the player to have.

Q: What is something related to the project in terms of progress or productivity that you were extremely pleased with?

A: The project overall wasn't too complicated so it wasn't something I felt I'd have a difficult time with in terms of the timeframe it had to be completed within, nonetheless I was still happy with completing it by the deadline.

Q: What is something related to the project that you feel could have gone better?

A: I feel that if I had more time I could've made the game longer with even more of a storyline and more choices and paths. I almost wish I had more time between school and everything else in life to make more choices during the week I had but alas, it still came out great.

Q: What is something related to the project overall that you feel went well?

A: Overall, I feel the project went great. I feel the adventure was simple but still fun to take and I had plenty of fun trying to come up with it and figuring it out once I did.
